GRETZKY: Ford cannot continue treating developmental services as an afterthought

Lisa Gretzky (Windsor West) released the following statement in solidarity with the workers at Community Living who provide critical community supports across Ontario:

“What has been reported happening to Community Living clients during this labour dispute is deeply disturbing. These are vulnerable individuals who rely on stability, trusted relationships, and familiar surroundings to feel safe and supported.

“What’s worse is that instead of working to resolve this dispute fairly, the government refuses to provide the court ordered remedy for wages they stole from these workers through Bill 124, and appears to be content with enormous amounts of money being spent relocating clients to rented out college dorms, and bringing in agency staff to replace the frontline workers that are on strike. Families and workers deserve answers about how these decisions were made and whether the wellbeing of clients was ever truly a priority for this government.

"The Ford government can’t continue treating developmental services clients and workers as an afterthought. Workers and families are left to bear the consequences of chronic underfunding and bad decision-making by the Ford government and they deserve much better.”
